What’s the purpose of course correction?
To stay on target.
It’s really tough to stay on target when the target is something you hope to hit in 5 years.
There’s a lot of room for error. A lot of room for distraction, for interference, for events outside your control to occur.
You have to create such micro, micro goals that get scaled from 5 years down to three, down to 1 year, down to 6 months, down to 3 months, down to 1 month, down to 4 weeks, down to 1 week, down to 5 days, down to 2 days, down to 1 day, down to 24 hours, down to 3 hours, down to 1 hour.
It’s incredible how tomorrow morning impacts whether or not you’ll hit the target you’ve set for yourself 5 years down the line.
And tomorrow morning is a huge impact because it affects your week. And if the goal is to string together 4 weeks, then week 1 is important. If the goal is to string together 3 months, then one month is important. All of a sudden now you have 365 days strung together and you still have 4 more years left to go.
The opportunities for distractors are endless, they are everywhere. They often show up disguised.
Disguised as what?
Urgent things or unimportant things.
Biting the bait on distractors ends up being a choice.
So systems that govern limitation of implementing distractors are of utmost importance.
