The Physiologic Recipe
by Dr. Chris Brown

The purpose of this blog is to facilitate myself and others in the development of a close and friendly relationship with our mind.

For myself, I leverage my physiology daily to promote a healthy mindspace.

Movement promotes hormones and neurotransmitters, provides healthy circulation bringing in nutrients while simultaneously clearing waste products and stimulating our prefrontal cortex helping with regulation of our amygdala.

Proper nourishment and gut health generates optimal levels of dopamine and serotonin, our “feel good” and “happy” molecules. It provides energy, positivity and the proper resources for our cells to also be physiologically happy.

Quality sleep is essential for facilitating our mind to be our friend. It calms our system down, allows our amygdala, our stress center to decrease in metabolic activity and regulates our hormones.

Our outlook on life, our reality is crucial to our mindspace. Making time to sit on the seat of observation and truly objectively observe interactions and experiences is critical towards keeping our system calm vs anxious, collected vs stressed. Reading, writing, journaling, meditating, taking time for ourselves can all change our perspective on reality.

How our brain and nervous system function is perhaps the greatest component of all. Proper function of our nervous system dictates the integration of the other ingredients. It’s the difference between peace and calamity instead of living with the fire alarm turned on 24/7.

These are the components of the recipe. But the ingredients vary for everybody.
